The highlight of day one is Ephesus (Efes) itself, one of the greatest and best-preserved cities of the ancient Mediterranean and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once the Roman capital of Asia Minor, its marble streets lead past the magnificent two-storey Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre that seated some 25,000, the Temple of Hadrian and the agora — an entire Roman world brought vividly to life.

At the heart of Hierapolis lies the Antique Pool, famously known as Cleopatra's Pool, where guests can swim among genuine Roman marble columns toppled into the warm, spring-fed water by an ancient earthquake — a magical and unusual highlight of the trip.
