Day 1 — Arrival in Istanbul

Your clients arrive at Istanbul Airport and are met and transferred to their hotel. The day is free to settle in and recover from the journey, and in the evening the tour guide meets the group for a welcome and a briefing on the days ahead.

Day 2 — Istanbul to Çanakkale via Troy

Leaving Istanbul, the coach travels west to the Dardanelles. En route, explore the legendary ancient city of Troy, immortalised in Homer's Iliad, and the striking modern Troy Museum, which displays the finds from its many layers of settlement. Overnight in the coastal city of Çanakkale.

Day 3 — Çanakkale to Kuşadası via Pergamon

This morning, ascend to the dramatic hilltop Acropolis of Pergamon, once the capital of a great Hellenistic kingdom, to see the Temple of Trajan, the vertiginous theatre carved into the hillside — the steepest of the ancient world — and the foundations of the Altar of Zeus. Continuing south, a Turkish delight and olive-oil stop breaks the journey before arrival in Kuşadası.

Day 4 — Ephesus, the Virgin Mary & Şirince

A leather atelier begins the day, followed by the great ancient city of Ephesus, with its marble avenues, the Library of Celsus and the Great Theatre. Nearby, visit the tranquil House of the Virgin Mary, a pilgrimage site for Christians and Muslims alike, then the hillside village of Şirince, famed for its Ottoman-Greek stone houses, fruit wines and vineyard views.

Day 5 — Kuşadası to Pamukkale via Laodicea

On the way inland, explore the extensive ruins of Laodicea, an important Roman trade city and one of the seven churches of the Book of Revelation, with its theatres, stadium and monumental streets. Arrive at Pamukkale to see the celebrated white travertine terraces and the ancient spa city of Hierapolis.

Day 6 — Pamukkale to Antalya

A spectacular drive over the Taurus Mountains, with panoramic views of rugged peaks and green valleys, descends to the Mediterranean at Antalya. Explore the atmospheric old town of Kaleiçi, where narrow cobbled lanes wind past Roman walls and Ottoman houses, and enjoy a boat trip along the old harbour and its hidden coves.

Day 7 — Antalya to Konya via Aspendos

En route to Konya, visit the magnificent Roman theatre of Aspendos, one of the best-preserved in the world and still renowned for its perfect acoustics. In Konya, the spiritual home of the whirling dervishes, visit the Mevlâna Museum and the shrine of the great 13th-century poet and mystic Rumi.

Day 8 — Konya to Cappadocia

Crossing the Anatolian plateau, stop at the grand 13th-century Sultanhanı Caravanserai, a beautifully preserved Silk Road inn once used by merchant caravans. Continue into Cappadocia and the extraordinary Göreme Open-Air Museum, with its cluster of rock-cut churches and Byzantine frescoes.

Day 9 — Cappadocia in full

An optional sunrise balloon flight can open the day, followed by sweeping views over Göreme Valley, a Turkish carpet-weaving demonstration, a photo stop beneath Uçhisar Castle, the tunnels of an underground city and the pottery workshops of Avanos. An optional evening Turkish show rounds off the day.

Day 10 — Cappadocia to Ankara

Towards the capital, pause at the vast white Salt Lake, then in Ankara visit Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Atatürk, and the historic Ankara Citadel with its views over the city.

Day 11 — Ankara to Istanbul via the Seven Lakes

A scenic route back towards Istanbul passes through the forests and interconnected lakes of the Seven Lakes National Park (Yedigöller) in the Bolu highlands, a beautiful spot for a walk and photographs, before continuing to Istanbul for the night.

Day 12 — Istanbul's highlights

A full day in the great city: the Old City's Hippodrome, Blue Mosque and Topkapı Palace, the aromatic Spice Bazaar and lively Taksim Square, capped by a Bosphorus dinner cruise between the continents past floodlit palaces and mansions.
